Homeless in Istanbul

We came to collect all your debts
We are stray pages
raining from the windows
A little warmth and we’re all set
Heaven is always being
warm and hollow
Sleep killed all the living sounds
And we’re all pale, still hanging around
Just be kind and hand me a match
Let’s light the paper, see if it’ll catch

Flatline pulse, but it’s alright
Nobody made it through the night
I’m out of my mind in plain sight

Wrapped in quilts
The smoke makes us wilt
But we laugh and I forget
If there’s guilt
There must be some filth
But we laugh and I
Yeah, I think I forget

I came to respect my dead
But their beds are made elsewhere
So all I have is my head
and maybe half a mind
And the curb is a cemetery sometimes

Flatline pulse, but it’s alright
Nobody made it through the night
I’m out of my mind in plain sight

It’s these passerby past times
Stop dead, stare or point
maybe even smile
And what was it last time?
Your tempting hands
overflowing with bile
But it’s all a long shot
I don’t think I’ll make it to cover
What I have is what I have not
New wound, old skin, gauze smoothed over
And I bet you forgot

Wrapped in quilts
The smoke makes us wilt
But we laugh and I forget
If there’s guilt
There must be some filth
But we laugh and I
Yeah, I think I forget

And you came to show me the home
that you have never owned
And not even the soothsayers know
why we’re here alone

Wrapped in quilts
The smoke makes us wilt
But we laugh and I forget
If there’s guilt
There must be some filth
But we laugh and I
Yeah, I think I forget
I think I forget
I just forget about it all
And not even the soothsayers know
