katkaesque

the bioluminous core is pulsating
the incubating polymorph spawn waits
needle-thin legs twitching, expectant
dreaming of chitinous wombs torn apart

an insectine genesis
a Zughanzi dissociation upon awakening
to a divorce from the self of slumber

the locus of control
cannot dictate its own direction

the corrosive hatchlings
voracious by design
eat right through the cocoon
emerging the unhinged swarm
they gush out of the open wound

the chrysalis provides pleasure
only when methodically flayed
peeled back and ripped to shreds

the imago inclination blesses
the necessary carcasses
littering the ground

the corrosive hatchlings
voracious by design
eat right through the cocoon
emerging the unhinged swarm
they gush out of the open wound

they spread out to eclipse the world

This is, hands down, the most positive thing I have ever written in my life.  Sure, on the surface it’s about mutant insect swarms hatching and then eating the world, and I see how that might take away from the positivity… but there is far more joy in this piece than I ever had in any piece of writing, before or since.
