The Softest Dream

You made yourself a home
behind those bangs and that smile
But the wolves are scratching at your door
Howling for you to come out for a while

Will your teeth be bared
when you decide to open up?
and should I be scared
that I will be your target when…

…you turn away
can’t look me straight in the eye
because you just feel so ashamed
that you didn’t get any of the blame

You hold your breath
hoping that it’ll all pass
plant a little memory
hope that it will catch
whisper the chattering lips away
to keep all those wolves at bay

Will your teeth be bared
when I decide to let it loose?
and should I be scared
that I will be demolished by it when…

You say nothing
you say nothing
can’t look me dead in the eye
because you feel so ashamed
that it wasn’t you that I blamed
You say nothing
you say nothing
can’t open your mouth to speak
because you feel so ashamed
that it wasn’t you who was blamed
