Epiphany

Shifting blue hues
the windshield’s ghostly gleam
someone’s saying something important out there
something is not what it seems
you should have paid closer attention
and caught the signs outlined in silver
flashing red
as they passed you by.

  1. Here’s what I pictured: a couple in a car, he’s driving, she’s in the passenger seat, bare feet on the dash painting her toenails and talking non-stop. He’s alternating between watching the road and looking at her. Her voice fades to background noise as epiphany washes over him and he begins to notice things, little things at first, that (now that he sees them) he wonders how he missed them in the first place. He glances at her again. She’s still talking as the road signs continue to slip past the window…
